Visiting Robert Verdi’s Luxe Laboratory

Fashion Week is in full swing, and on Thursday I had the opportunity to stop by Robert Verdi’s Luxe Laboratory for a mid-day makeover, thanks to my friend Karen of Pretty Is Pretty Does.

To kick things off, my newspaper nails were switched for some sparkle with Queen of Beauty by SinfulColors. At only $1.99 a bottle, this is an affordable must-have.

Next my hair was given a pick-me-up by the delightful Dan Sharp, who was repping T-3. He’s also the owner of the Carroll Gardens salon Danka Panka, which I must check out. I was lucky enough to take home this T-3 SinglePass Compact flat iron. After one use, I absolutely love it. It’s perfect for traveling, using to straighten the baby curls along my hairline, and smoothing the frizzy pieces at the top.

Of course no makeover would be complete without the makeup, and that’s where I was pampered by Neutrogena. Usually I’m disappointed by overdone makeup, but I was given a natural look that made me feel so good I had to hug the makeup artist! I’m so excited to try my new products, especially the nourishing eye quad in Moonlit Violet.

After I was feeling fabulous, it was time to have my photo taken by Snapfish by HP, while posing with my POP Phone by Native Union. As a freelancer, my cell phone is my work phone, but this makes me feel better now that I don’t have to risk the radiation by holding my cell phone directly to my ear during those conference calls.

My last stop was meeting the lovely ladies of bamboopink, a direct sales company offering high quality yet affordable fashion jewelry designed by Jude Frances. I love this bracelet that features their “love knot.”

When I woke up Thursday morning, I didn’t think my day would have turned out as fabulous as it had. It was so much fun and I can’t wait to use all of these goodies I got to take home!

Standing on the overpass waiting for the F train under a perfectly blue twilight sky I try to find the dividing line between Manhattan and Brooklyn.
The skyscrapers all seem to be in my reach and so do you
The first time in weeks I’m not tied down to technology

I just want to put this out there: I am not writing this to toot my own horn. All I’m saying is that when you have friends who are pregnant, you begin to sympathize with the round bellies of the world. So while I was sat on the subway minding my own business, and I saw a blossoming belly staring me in the eye from across the way, I looked around from side to side. After I saw no one else was even inching to get up, I offered my seat.

People! These women are carrying our future, for better or worse. And if nothing else, do you know what it’s like to carry and extra 25 lbs with you all day?! Stand up for the preggos of the world and offer your seat.

I’m trying to read Parshat Hanesi’im like I’ve done for the past 20 days, but I can’t concentrate because I’m listening to Darkcho‘s album in the background and the singer’s voice is doing terribly wonderful things to me, like breaking my concentration and making me remember the first time I was so taken by a chazan’s voice that I wished there was such a thing as kol ish. If you’re reading this and you know him and think this man is my husband, help a sister out, because with a voice like this I could rest with a smile on my face. Damn.

Being a dickhead’s cool – no matter where you’re from!

I am so thankful for Ronaldo at 101 Great Goals who sent me this hilarious song “Being a Dickhead’s Cool” by London’s music comedy duo The Grand Spectacular. I have been obsessed with it since I first played the song 2 days ago. Seriously. It’s now my ring tone on my phone. I play it for strangers on the street and have spontaneous dance parties to it. I think I will have to go ahead and download the song so I can stop hitting play on their Youtube vid…which is part of the fun, though. Anyway, please watch, listen and enjoy. And don’t get freaked out by the “must be 18 years or older” thing. There’s just one bad drawing of a penis in a song about dickheads.

Naked in a Fishbowl

My friend Daliya Karnofsky is really cool. So cool that she gets to make guest appearances in this hilarious weekly unscripted show of talented women called Naked in a Fishbowl.

These lovely women have given the code NIFS to get 30% off your tickets – what a steal! I saw it last week and LOVED it. I’d been watching the episodes online for weeks prior, so it was great to finally see these women live and in action.

She’s the First Presents: Girls Who Rock – a benefit for AfricAid

My friend Cynthia Hellen is a rock star in her own right. She always seems to be at the most happening parties, has various jobs and titles, from publicist to event planner to journalist, and she loves working with She’s the First – a wonderful charity organization that fundraises to give young African girls the opportunity to receive an education where otherwise they would be denied simply because they can’t afford the cost. Pretty sad, right?

So when Cynthia first told me about tonight’s Girls Who Rock concert where proceeds benefit AfricAid, I knew it would be a fabulous event with talented acts all for a great cause. When Cynthia puts her stamp of approval on something, you know it’s going to be a hit with possibly a hint of glamor.

The concert is tonight at Santos Party House from 7 – 11:30pm. Tickets start at $20, but all contributions are welcome. Please support this wonderful organization! See you tonight
